Although we've removed wasps nests on our front porch time and again, they keep coming back, so not long ago we moved a tomato plant to the same area and the wasps kept it hornworm free.
The truth is, wasps are important pollinators and pest control predators. Wasps will go after any abundance of insects, including flies and they aren't picky about what plants they pollinate (where bees might be more selective).
Not to mention, research shows wasps have facial recognition capabilities, so we don't swing or swat at our wasps (just in case they might hold a grudge). Interestingly, when we relax on the front porch, the wasps come and go, but don't bother us.
Although wasps don't make honey, they are hard workers. Consider employing your wasps to your advantage, but keep them away from your butterfly garden (and perhaps closer to your vegetable garden).
