Tucked along Fahm Street in the Historical District of Savannah, Ga. is a fascinating location called The CorkHouse. The store seemingly carries every conceivable product that can be made from sustainable cork.
The CorkHouse focuses as much on informing the public about the sustainability of cork. as they do about selling products. Along with details about the nature of cork, you can find shoes, flooring, purses, art frames and more, all made from cork. Whatever you might be looking for, cork covers the gamut.
Store Manager Peter Zukof explained to us that they are currently working on a flip-flop made from a marriage of cork and recycled materials. The amazingly comfortable footwear is still in development and not yet available to the public.
Peter also noted the growing use of cork in ways you might never imagine, such as space exploration. Did you know NASA uses cork as insulation?
Check out The Corkhouse to learn more about the sustainable uses of cork and to find great products for family and friends. Our thanks to Peter for the great conversation and tour.
