The North American Invasive Species Management Association (NAISMA) has published an alert regarding zebra mussels (pictured below) found in aquarium moss balls sold in at least 34 states.
If you own or know someone who owns an aquarium, pond, or similar aquatic environment, be sure to examine any moss balls acquired and DO NOT dump products thought or found to contain the invasive species. They must be destroyed as zebra mussels "severely disrupt food webs, starve native species," and damage aquatic infrastructure. For more on this alarming issue, check out NAISMA's alert here.
